Mission

TEACH cultivates the next generation of diverse reproductive health champions through abortion training and mentorship.

Purpose

TEACH acts as an academic and community partnership that coordinates hands on clinical abortion training for an annual cohort of 60+ family medicine residents from four UCSF affiliated Northern California Family Medicine residency programs (UCSF, Contra Costa, Natividad and Sutter Santa Rosa). Although residents get some abortion experience at their residency clinic, it is not nearly enough to gain competence. To address the need for more procedural experience, TEACH partners with two California Planned Parenthood affiliates and Women’s Health Specialists in Northern California to provide residents with a reproductive health rotation at high-volume abortion clinics where residents gain clinical experience under the supervision of our expert Faculty.

We develop innovative curriculum informed by reproductive justice principles that empower clinicians to provide compassionate, trauma-informed abortion care that centers patients’ autonomy and dignity and advances access to equitable healthcare. The TEACH Abortion Training Curriculum is widely used for academic abortion training, used to train clinicians in primary care across the United States.
