Mission

The Energy Democracy Project has a focused mission to advance a movement to democratize energy through dynamic organizational collaboration that will leverage the following:
– Sharing of expertise and knowledge that advances the energy democracy work that Project Collaborators are engaged in
– Developing stronger relationships between organizations
– Identifying common technical and resource needs in order to construct an institutional framework or entity that can address them
– Developing a well defined sense of collective responsibility and common strategies for strengthening the emerging energy democracy movement

Purpose

The Energy Democracy Project represents a collaborative for advancing and strengthening the movement to democratize energy. Project Collaborators are racially and geographically diverse energy democracy organizations advocating for community-based, solutions-focused, frontline-led, and justice-centered renewable energy efforts.

This group of organizations works to build local community ownership and control of clean energy resources and to promote racial and economic equity as a cornerstone of the clean energy transition.

The Project’s primary national focus is to build narrative and political power for transformative change in our energy system. While we celebrate our diversity, we come together based on our Shared Values and Purpose.

The culture of the Energy Democracy Project is that of translocal sharing and collaboration. We recognize that, in order for energy democracy to be achieved anywhere, it has to be achieved everywhere.
