Mission

Decarcerate Sacramento is a coalition working to prevent jail expansions, decrease jail populations, and shift county funds away from policing and incarceration towards community-based systems of care that promote community safety and health.

Purpose

Decarcerate Sacramento (DS) is an abolitionist organization that advocates for policies and budget reform to reduce the Sacramento County jail population and fund life-affirming services that prevent criminalization and incarceration. We work to build a membership base of people currently incarcerated inside Sacramento County jails alongside a network of organizers on the outside. Our membership consists both of individuals who are directly impacted by incarceration and their allies.
