Mission

Decarcerate KC aims to raise awareness, build power, and create change around issues of incarceration and policing in Kansas City. We are a multiracial, multigenerational organization that centers those impacted by incarceration and policing in order to end the reliance on incarceration and policing and build a safer Kansas City for all.

Purpose

Decarcerate KC envisions a Kansas City focused on true accountability that centers the personal, communal, and structural in order to replace systems of incarceration and policing for those rooted in care, restoration, and transformation. We believe we can reach this vision by organizing to fund life-affirming institutions, engaging in collective education, and reimagining public safety in our communities. Our north star is abolition, which means we believe in a future where police and prisons have been abolished. Life-affirming resources are fully funded and everyone has what they need not just to survive but thrive in community with one another.
