Eligibility
The first step to fiscal sponsorship is to determine if your project fits SEE’s mission and the legal framework. More detailed information on the legal requirements may be found at www.IRS.gov.
A. Please review the minimum requirements for your project to be considered a 501(c)(3) organization:
- Project activities must be charitable in purpose.
- Project must be organized and operated exclusively for purposes set forth.
- No earnings may inure to any private shareholder or individual.
- There can be no attempt to influence legislation as a substantial part of its activities.
- Projects cannot participate in any campaign activity for or against political candidates.
- The organization must not be organized or operated for the benefit of private interests.
- Projects must have one allocated director that will uphold all communication.
- Regular access to telephone and email is mandatory.
B. Please review the criteria below to determine if your project is a good fit for SEE’s mission:
- Project must have a clear and concise mission that directly relates to social or environmental progress.
- If your project already has 501(c)(3) status, it must be made dormant while under SEE’s sponsorship.
- Activities of the project cannot serve a commercial business.
- Projects with international activities must have a U.S. base.
- Activities of the project must not be litigious in nature.
