Enabling people with mental illness in West Africa to live with dignity and purpose by providing modern psychiatric care.
We are launching Treatment Not Chains to raise funds to support the work of the St. Camille Association in Benin. This Association is a non-profit that creates treatment centers for people suffering from mental illness in West Africa. They have built nine treatment centers in Benin and Ivory Coast where people can receive psychotropic medications and care. Many of the treatment centers have work centers attached to them where patients in recovery learn work skills to enhance their self-sufficiency when they return to their communities. St. Camille is now expanding its work to Togo where mentally ill people are still kept chained to trees for lack of appropriate care facilities.
