Mission

Our mission is to enable indigenous communities of Mexico’s Sierra Madre to sustain their bicultural resources and traditions.

Purpose

Tierra Nativa provides technical assistance, training, and resources to community based projects in protection of land rights and restoration of agricultural and natural resources. We conduct basic applied research into successful alternatives and technologies to the root causes of the cycles of environmental, social and cultural decline in the Sierra Madre. We work with Tepehuan, Tarahumara and Mountain Pima communities and their mestizo neighbors, who are connected in a complicated and dysfunctional multicultural, communal land system. We collaborate with traditional indigenous leaders, institutions, communities and other NGOs that provide basic services in the region to develop innovative solutions to biocultural decline.
