Michael S. Rosenbaum Foundation
Michael S. Rosenbaum was an award-winning journalist in a career that spanned over 40 years, including a 27-year career as a news producer for CBS News where he produced stories for all of the News division’s broadcasts. He died of a brain tumor in May 2012 at the age of 64. The mission of the Michael S. Rosenbaum Foundation is to honor Michael’s legacy, his extraordinary professional accomplishments and commitment to mentoring young, journalistic talent.
The Foundation’s first effort will be to fund a scholarship at the School of Journalism at the State University of New York at Stony Brook. The scholarship will provide support for deserving Stony Brook journalism students to go on oversees reporting trips, through the school’s “Journalism Without Walls” program. Students receive academic credit, and the opportunity to learn about and participate in foreign news reporting, producing multimedia reports on stories they would otherwise never get to cover firsthand. The Foundation also intends to provide a grant or scholarship to deserving student journalists attending Cornell University and who report for the Cornell Daily Sun newspaper, where Michael began his career in journalism while attending Cornell.
